Hard red spring wheat harvest in the region was slowed by widespread rainfall across the area this past week but harvest remains ahead of both last year and the five-year average. A breakdown of samples collected from each state follows: South Dakota (99%), North Dakota (76%), Minnesota (75%), and Montana (55%). The northern areas of Montana and North Dakota have yet to be harvested. Seventy percent of the samples have been collected and analyzed for wheat quality in this report. The average wheat protein stayed the same as last week at 14.9%. Average test weight dropped slightly from last week to 60.3 lb/bu (79.3 kg/hl) which is the same as the five-year average. Average DHV is 85% making the average grade of the crop at this time 1 DNS. Falling number average is 441 seconds indicating no sprout damage and a sound crop at this time.
