Weather conditions have just about halted harvesting in Maryland and slowed combining in northern Indiana and Ohio. Harvesting is almost complete in Virginia, Missouri and Illinois.

Harvesting in Illinois is 80% complete compared to the five-year average of 81%. Indiana is 37% complete compared to the five-year average of 53%, and Ohio is reporting just 2% complete as of July 2.

One-hundred-sixty-five samples have been received to date compared to 134 one year ago. The cumulative protein average is 10% compared to 9.7% in 2005. Thousand kernel weight is down from 34.9 gm last year to 32.9 gm this year. Grade factors are similar to last year, and the average falling number value is 331 compared to 360 last year at this time.
