As of August 5, according to the North
Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service Office, the durum harvest was 26%
complete, substantially greater than the five-year average of 4%. Most
of the harvested samples were obtained from southwestern ND. The
average test weight was 60.1 lb/bu (78.2 kg/hl), higher than 59.3 lb/bu
(77.3 kg/hl) of the 2011 crop year. The average dockage and wheat
protein was 0.6% and 15.4%, respectively. The average falling number
was 417 seconds, indicating a sound crop so far.
