Harvest Report - September 7, 2012

The hard red spring harvest pushes to completion in the region with the only remaining samples yet to be collected and analyzed from Montana.  This harvest update represents approximately 93% of the samples that are to be analyzed.  Protein content, test weight, and falling number averages remain unchanged from last week.  Average protein content is 14.6% which is slightly below the final average of 14.8% for last year.  At this time about 51% of the samples analyzed have been greater than 14.5% protein content.  Test weight average is 60.9 lb/bu (80.1 kg/hl) compared to a final average last year of 60.1 lb/bu (79.1 kg/hl).  Average vitreous kernel content is 74% making the average grade of the crop at this time 1 NS.  Sample collection should wrap-up next week.
