Harvest Report - September 8, 2006

Hard red spring wheat harvest in the region made some progress last week remaining ahead of last year's pace and the five-year average. Sample collection is wrapping up this week. Little change was made to this week's averages. Ninety-four percent of the samples have been collected and analyzed for wheat quality in this week's report. Average wheat protein remains at 14.9% which is slightly higher than the five-year average of 14.4%. Average test weight is 60.1 lb/bu (79.1 kg/hl) which is the same as last year's average. Falling number average is over 400 seconds. Average DHV is at 83% making the average grade at this time 1 DNS. Next week's report will be the last weekly harvest update for this year. Milling and baking evaluation of regional composites will take place next week.
