Harvest in Arkansas is complete. Southern Arkansas is showing average flour protein of 9.2%. Falling numbers in the area are acceptable at 263. Absorptions are approximately 52%.
Tropical storm Alberto brought heavy rains and winds to the coastal areas of North Carolina. However, harvest in southeastern North Carolina is complete with reasonable test weights at greater than 60.0 lb/bu (78.9 kg/hl) and average protein of 11%, a full percent higher than last year in this area. There is a much broader range of protein values this year at 9.3% to 15.0%, compared to 9.3% to 11.9% last year. However, there is not the broad range in falling number values this year with the low at 213 seconds.
The Missouri harvest progressed well with little interference from weather and is rated at about 70% complete. The winter wheat crop (as reported by NASS) is rated at 24% fair, 47% good and 8% excellent.
Thus far, SRW harvest has progressed with reasonable speed and very little interference from weather. Test weights overall in the region appear high.
