|Five additional samples were received from the hard red winter region this week. As can be seen by the cumulative overall averages, this resulted in virtually no change in the data.
- All of South Dakota samples have been received. As with the majority of HRW wheat areas this year, South Dakota protein is higher with the 2006 crop averaging 12.6% thus far compared to 12.1% last year. Test weights are just slightly higher at 60.6 lb/bu (79.7 kg/hl), falling number values are strong and wheat ash is just slightly lower than last year.
- Montana samples are being received, and the harvest is reported to be more than 50% complete. Crop conditions are relatively good compared to other HRW areas with NASS rating 32% of the crop as fair, 41% as good and 18% as excellent. Remaining samples from Montana are expected within the next week to ten days, which will finish the 2006 hard red winter harvest survey.
Additional flour information on the remaining areas will be available next week as the final samples are received.
A preliminary HRW summary report with all data collected to date is available on USW's Crop Quality Report page.
