The 2006 Pacific Northwest wheat harvest is slightly faster paced in Washington, but Idaho and Oregon are at a similar, but slower pace than last year. The first week's SW samples mainly consist of 42% from north central Oregon and 26% from southeastern Washington. This weeks limited number of samples indicated excellent test weight at 61.0 lb/bu (80.2 kg/hl), low moisture content at 9.1%, good protein at 10.4%, and sound falling number value at 333 seconds. The weather has been very hot and dry in the Pacific Northwest wheat country.
