|As of July 15, all samples of the SRW crop have been collected across the entire region. As has been the case from the start, the harvest has been smaller than previous years. Ohio had a 9% decrease in planted acres and is projecting a similar reduction in harvested acres. Illinois has harvested 85% of the crop compared to 78% last year and a five-year average of 92%. Illinois is reporting an average of 59 bu/acre but is anticipating a 30% reduction in total yield from last year. Indiana has harvested 83% compared to 64% in 2008 and a five-year average of 85%, but is also expecting a 20% reduction in the crop size.|
Compared to last week, the cumulative data has changed little, but compared to 2008 final data, is 0.5% higher in protein. Both test weight and 1000 kernel weight have decreased when compared to 2008.
Additional flour data from Virginia show the continuing decrease in milling yield. Flour ash is acceptable, and farinograph absorption is lower than last year.
