As of August 12, according to the North
Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service Office, the durum harvest was 36%
complete. About half of the tested samples are from southwestern
North Dakota and 18% from Montana. The average grade of samples received
so far is #1 HAD with test weight averaging 60.0 lb/bu (78.1 kg/hl), total
defects 1.2%, and HVAC of 93.1%. Protein content is 14.8%, down from
last week at 15.4%. The average falling number remains high at 427
seconds, indicating a sound crop.
