Harvest Report - August 18, 2006
HRS
Excellent progress was made early last week for the hard red spring wheat harvest, but heavy isolated rain showers slowed progress over the weekend. Forty-nine percent of the samples have been collected and analyzed for wheat quality in this report. The average wheat protein dropped slightly to 14.9%, which is slightly up from the five-year average of 14.4%. Average test weight is 60.7 lb/bu (79.8 kg/hl), up from last year's average of 60.1 lb/bu (79.1 kg/hl). Falling number average remains over 400 seconds. Average DHV is down from last week's average of 92% to 83%, though the average grade of the crop is still 1 DNS. Regional protein breakdowns are as follows: 20% is less than 13.5% protein, 29% in the mid-range of 13.5-14.5%, and 51% of the crop is greater than 14.5%.
