Harvest Report - August 18, 2006
Durum
The 2006 durum harvest is off to a good start. As of August 13, according to the North Dakota Agricultural Statistics Service office, harvest is 32% complete, ahead of 16% for last year and 10% for the five-year average. As of August 17, the average test weight was 58.9 lb/bu (76.7 kg/hl), lower than 60.8 lb/bu (79.2 kg/hl) for the 2005 crop. The average wheat protein content was 15.7%, higher than last year's 13.4%. The average dockage was 2.5% compared to 1.5% for last year. The falling number average was 405 seconds indicating the crop is sound thus far. Preliminary grading information is not yet available.
