|SRW harvest is progressing rather rapidly this year with completed sampling for early harvest in Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia and eastern Maryland. Rains and wet fields have slowed harvesting in western Maryland. Sampling of early harvest is just about completed in Missouri and southern Indiana.|
Early wheat data for northeast North Carolina are very similar to 2006 with the exception of higher average moisture this year. For southeast North Carolina average test weight is down 2 lb/bu, and 1000 kernel weight is 3 grams lighter as compared to 2006 results. Average protein is 1% higher this year and falling number values are all above 330.
Late wheat data for northeast North Carolina show average test weight, protein, and falling number values are all higher than last year. Compared to the early harvest results, average protein has increased, 1000 kernel weight has decreased and the falling number value is unchanged. Late wheat data for southeast North Carolina indicate average moisture is 2% higher this year. Test weight is higher and protein is quite similar. Falling number values are much better than 2006 data. Average protein and 1000 kernel weight have decreased from the early harvest data.
Early wheat data for Kentucky indicate average test weight is 1.2 lb/bu lower than last year. Moisture content is quite high, but the remaining data is similar to 2006.
Late wheat data for northern Arkansas indicate average test weight is down from last year and protein average is over 1% higher this year. Test weight has decreased from the early harvest results while protein is slightly higher.
Early Flour Data:
Southern Arkansas. Milling yield is higher this year with an equivalent flour ash content. Farinograph absorption is up from 52.2%. Bake volume is higher this year with a slightly lower cookie W/T.
Central Arkansas. Milling data indicated better milling yields this year. Flour ash is similar. Flour absorption is higher this year. Bread volume and cookie W/T are slightly higher also.
Northern Arkansas. Milling yield is higher as is flour ash compared to 2006. Farinograph data is very similar. Bake volume has increased.
Late Flour Data:
Southern Arkansas. Milling yield is higher compared to 2006. Absorption has remained the same. Bread score is lower this year with a very harsh texture. Data is very similar to the early harvest results.
Central Arkansas. Flour ash is higher this year, but the milling yield has also increased. Bread volume has increased and the cookie W/T is slightly less.
