Harvest Report - July 24, 2009
SRW
The soft red winter analysis is complete on the wheat samples tested this year. As previously discussed, there are fewer samples this year with fewer acres planted and harvested. There is little or no change in the cumulative data compared to last week. Compared to 2008 final cumulative data, protein is up just slightly this year; test weight and 1000 kernel weight are down; and the overall falling number value is unchanged. Analysis of individual grade factors shows an increase in damage, shrunken and broken kernels, and total defects this year.

Results from the experimentally milled flour completed this past week show lower milling yields across the entire region compared to 2008. Flour ash is consistent with last year's data. Overall, the farinograph absorption is lower than last year. The W/T factor for the cookie bake test is equal or slightly lower than last year's results for the growing region. Additional flour analysis data will be available next week.
