Good harvest progress was made again this past week, but rain showers have slowed harvest progress in some areas for the past few days. Approximately 50% of the samples have been collected. Sample collection is almost complete in South Dakota and southeastern North Dakota. The average test weight is 59.6 lb/bu (78.4 kg/hl) compared to 58.8 lb/bu (77.4 kg/hl) last week. The test weights range from a low of 54.2 lb/bu (71.4 kg/hl) to a high of 65.4 lb/bu (85.9 kg/hl). The average protein content is 15.1% compared to 13.9% last year and 14.2% for the five-year average. The protein levels range from a minimum of 11.4% to a maximum of 17.9%. The crop is sound with a falling number value of 386 seconds.  The average DHV is 73%, the same as last year and the five-year average.
