Harvest Report - August 31, 2012
HRS

The hard red spring harvest is almost over, with Minnesota and South Dakota completed and North Dakota near completion.  The remaining samples to be collected and analyzed will be from Montana and northwestern North Dakota.  Approximately 82% of the samples have been collected and analyzed for this update.  Average test weight is 60.9 lb/bu (80.1 kg/hl) which is up from last year's final average of 60.1 lb/bu (79.1 kg/hl).  Average protein content remains the same as last week at 14.6%.  Falling number average is over 400 seconds indicating a sound wheat crop at this time.  Average vitreous kernel content dropped slightly to 74% making the average grade 1 NS.  Dry weather in the region should push harvest to completion in the next couple weeks.
