|This last week has seen very good progress in Maryland and Illinois while Ohio harvest is just getting underway. Maryland and Virginia are near completion of harvest while Missouri, Indiana and Illinois are still trailing the normal pace. Ohio has harvested less than 20% and is about one week behind the normal stage. Northern Indiana has harvested less than 10%, while approximately 40% has been combined in the southern area compared to the five-year average of 67%.|
Cumulative data remains unchanged from last week despite the 72 additional samples tested. Compared to 2007 final data, protein is just slightly lower, test weight slightly higher and falling number value is equal. Individual states' data are following this trend with better test weight and 1000 kernel weight values.
Data from the Missouri sample show a slight increase in test weight from the eastern side of the state and a similar average from the western half compared to last year. Protein content is very similar to 2007.
The flour data in North Carolina and Virginia are showing better milling yields while eastern Illinois results are lower. Farinograph absorption is lower in eastern Illinois but higher in Virginia. Flour ash values continue to be very acceptable.
