Delayed planting and cool growing conditions have delayed the hard red spring harvest from one to three weeks in the spring wheat growing region. Approximately 10% of the samples have been collected. The average test weight is 60.6 lb/bu (79.7 kg/hl) compared to 60.8 lb/bu (80.0 kg/hl) last year and the five-year average of 60.7 lb/bu (79.9 kg/hl). The average protein content is 14.1% compared to 14.3% last year and 14.4% for the five-year average. The crop is sound with a falling number value of 402 seconds. The average grade is 1 NS, the same as last year and the five-year average. Twenty-one of the 27 samples tested are from South Dakota.
