SRW
It is anticipated that field representatives will begin sample collection next week in North Carolina and Arkansas.

North Carolina remained mostly dry last week, with precipitation ranging from no rain to 1.3 inches in Gastonia. Average temperatures were below normal, ranging from 53 to 71 degrees. A review with several elevators indicated start of harvest late next week (June 4-5).

In Arkansas, the week began dry, but rain moved in over the weekend with Little Rock receiving the most rain at 3.1 inches. Harvest started in the southernmost area of the state.

As of May 12, USDA is forecasting more than a 50 percent decrease in Arkansas' crop and a decrease of 35 percent in North Carolina, with an overall decrease of 30 percent across the entire growing region.
